FAQ: deck demolition on the South Shore
Do you need a permit to demolish my deck?
For the large majority of ground-level or backyard residential decks, no. Permits mostly apply to building the new deck, not tearing down the old one. Since rules vary city to city on the South Shore, check with your municipality if your structure is attached to the building or elevated, and we adjust to what you tell us.
What do you do with the old treated deck wood?
Pressure-treated lumber can't go in the recycling bin or be burned: we take it to a recovery facility for proper disposal. Composite, railing metal and brackets get sorted separately. Across all our pickups we divert about 80% from landfill, and we can show you the disposal receipts.
Do you also remove the posts and concrete bases?
Yes. We pull 6x6 posts even when set in concrete, and clear out sonotubes or patio blocks. For deep poured footings, we talk it through at the quote: we confirm the price before digging so there's no surprise at the truck.
