Do I need a permit to demolish my barn?
Most South Shore municipalities require a demolition permit for a structure this size, and it's the owner's job to get it from the city. We can start as soon as you have it in hand. Call us before and we'll tell you what we see on site to help you fill out your application.
What do you do with the old barn wood, is it worth anything?
Weathered barn board resells well, so if the planks are sound we can take them down carefully and stack them on your lot instead of hauling them off. You keep it, or we send it to reuse. Sheet metal and steel go to recycling, the rest is disposed of responsibly.
What if the roof contains asbestos or the barn is too unstable?
On older buildings, some siding or roof panels can contain asbestos, which needs specialized removal that we don't do ourselves. If we suspect any, we tell you before starting. For a very unstable structure that would need an excavator, we assess the situation and are honest about what we can do by hand.
